The first ODI match between South Africa Vs India starts today. The Indian team won the One Day International series against the hosts, Proteas, when they toured in 2018.
The batting will be the significant thing to watch. KL Rahul will captain this ODI side. The Karnataka opener will replace Rohit Sharma as the skipper of the fifty overs side. KL had a tremendous first Test at Centurion. His century propelled India to score a big 1st innings score. Rahul now needs to eye a good score in the ODI series. As a leader, he needed to play a captain’s knock against a good pace bowling attack.
Shikhar Dhawan will partner with the new ODI skipper in the 1st match. Dhawan has been good as a fifty-overs format batter. But he needs to play out of skins to cement his place for the rest of the ODI matches. Ruturaj Gaikwad had an excellent Vijay Hazare Trophy season in 2021. If Dhawan fails, then Gaikwad will be India’s next option.
The eyes will also be on Virat Kohli. The buzz created around the former Indian skipper has been tremendous. Still, he needs to concentrate as a player. Although, Kohli has left the captaincy from all formats. But King Kohli will be the leading player for India across formats. VK was the highest runscorer when India won their first ODI series in South Africa in 2018. He also scored three tons in that series.
Jasprit Bumrah is the new vice-captain of the ODI format for this series. With Mohammad Shami rested, Bumrah holds the key with the new ball and death overs. His slower ones, cutters, variations and Yorkers should be unplayable for the Proteas batsmen.
On the other hand, South Africa will be thrilled to win the Test series after being 0-1 down. Dean Elgar led the side well, and it was his heroics in the fourth innings of the 2nd Test match that allowed the hosts to make a comeback and win the series at Cape Town. Temba Bavuma will lead the Proteas in the fifty overs format. Bavuma also had a good Test series, and he will also look to make a men’s mark in this series.
After retiring from the Tests, Quinton De Kock will be the player to watch out for in the ODI series. The Proteas WK Batter has a good ODI record against India, and he will look to make a mark in the fifty overs series. Kagiso Rabada and Marco Jansen will lead the bowling. They were good in the Test series, and South Africa will also want them to continue their form in the ODI series.

South Africa Vs India 1st ODI match – Fantasy Batsmen
Virat Kohli – The Run machine of Indian cricket will not be the skipper anymore. Still, he holds an important place in the Indian Team. He is the best batsman of the side. But it would be interesting to see how he plays under a junior player, KL Rahul. Kohli’s attacking instincts should help KL, captaining the ODI side for the first time. Virat will be India’s trump card at the number three position in this series.
Quinton De Kock – The South African wicketkeeper batter will be an asset for his team in the opening position. If De Kock repeats his heroics of the 2014 fifty overs series against India, the Indian team will have a considerable problem. QDK can take the game away in no time. After retiring from the format of the tests, De Kock will look to be more aggressive in this series as India is his favorite opposition.
South Africa Vs India 1st ODI match – Fantasy Bowlers
Kagiso Rabada – The Proteas pace bowler didn’t start the Test series nicely. Still, Rabada came back well and ripped the Indian batting apart with his classy swing and pace bowling. Now Rabada will again look to make most of the conditions which will trouble India’s top three.
Jasprit Bumrah – India’s new vice-captain, is the trump card for the visitors in this series. Boom Boom Bumrah will be the key with the new ball. He is a vital member of the Indian Team across the formats. He is known as the Yorker King and he can also use the new ball to good effect which will trouble the hosts in the absence of Mohammad Shami.
